Our Story
The Reinhardts and Smiths moved our families intentionally onto the same street in Park Circle in 2013. The goal was to live, work and play in the same community. For more than six years, Dr. Smith and Dr. Reinhardt worked together at Detyens Medical Center and Harvest Free Medical Clinic. We share a common desire to see brokenness made whole again. Quite frankly, that is why we practice medicine. We continue to learn how to best take care of those marginalized by brokenness in our work at Harvest Free Medical Clinic. Meanwhile, our time at Detyens Medical Center taught us a common sense model of healthcare delivery that we want to share with the greater community.
Through Neighbors Med, we bring a welcome voice into a healthcare delivery system that is broken. We long to build genuine relationships with our patients by treating them not as an account number, but each as a uniquely created person. At Neighbors, barriers that have been created between patient and doctor in the medical system have been cast aside. You have unparalleled access to your doctors. We provide excellent medicine at affordable price—an exceptional value. Finally, we want to serve our community at large, and you specifically…our neighbors.
Our Team
MartIN Smith, MD
Dr. Smith grew up in the small rural community of Santuck, SC, outside of Union, SC. He is known for his ultra-competitive nature. This drove him to memorable stints on the Union County High School basketball and baseball teams. He went to Wofford College and MUSC before completing his training in internal medicine at MUSC. He spent a year working at an MUSC internal medicine practice before moving full-time to Harvest Free Medical Clinic (HFMC) in 2013. He is currently the medical director at HFMC, as well as the director of an internal medicine elective for medical students from MUSC that rotate through HFMC. His competitive spirit, drive for excellence, and attentiveness to detail are some of the gifts he brings to our team. He has been blessed with a fantastic teammate in his wife, Laura Lee, and four (yes we said four!) incredible daughters.
Brian Reinhardt, MD
Dr. Reinhardt grew up in the upstate with an easy-going, but persistent nature that lead to many miles of running country roads while on the track and cross country teams in high school and then Furman University. Even these days, if you are out and about in the Park Circle area, you might just catch him getting in an early morning run. After Furman, he made his way to the Lowcountry, to attend medical school at MUSC. He completed his family medicine training at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, SC. Upon returning to the Lowcountry in 2013, he took a position working at Detyens Medical Center. Because of the generosity of Detyens Shipyards, this position has afforded him to spend two afternoons each week at Harvest Free Medical Clinic (HFMC). He became the medical director of Detyens Medical Center in 2016. He has also helped craft the curriculum for MUSC students rotating through HFMC, with an emphasis on caring for the poor, cost-effective medicine, and whole person care. He maintains his easy-going, but consistent persona, bringing this character to our team. Amanda, his incredible wife, allows life to be a great adventure in the Reinhardt family. They enjoy home-schooling their four children and learning about life right alongside them.
Ashley Bryan, PA-C, CDE
Ashley grew up in the small town of Santuck, SC, near Union, SC. She went to Coker College and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She then obtained a Master’s in Public Health at the University of South Carolina while volunteering and working with Baptist Collegiate Ministries Women’s Ministry and Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (and teaching yoga!). After graduating from USC, Ashley pursued a degree in Physician Assistant studies at Shenandoah University.
Since then, Ashley has had the opportunity to serve underserved communities and families through emergency, internal, and family medicine as both a PA and Certified Diabetes Educator. While serving as a PA is one love of Ashley’s, being a mom and wife are her favorite jobs. She is the mom of an energetic toddler and a miracle baby girl (and a fun-loving dog!). She is also married to the man of her dreams, Chris, who is an engineer with Water Mission. Together, Chris and Ashley love camping in their teardrop camper, hiking and kayaking. As for their day-jobs, they love being able to use their careers to serve others and they can’t imagine a better example to set for their children than to spend their days loving others.
